Wasser 3.0 Microplastics Elimination: Kick off for pilot tests at a wastewater treatment plant

Our concept putting new water cleaning solutions in a mobile container solution to adjust a wastewater treatment plant with new material compositions to different loads has been continuously pursued in recent years.

Now, after three years of development, we were able to place the first container for microplastic elimination on a municipal sewage treatment plant. The tests have been running for four weeks and we are in the process of collecting the first study data.

It´s all about water.

The concept of Wasser 3.0 is based on a holistic approach. In our work, the path of the molecule (molecular level) is always followed via the material into the plant. Our goal is always clean water.

There are many different stressors in our (waste) water, which make their way into our wastewater and water (surface, ground, drainage and drinking water) by means of diverse pathways (household, industrial, agricultural). In order to remove these impurities, it is very important to know which stressors in which concentrations are in the wastewater. On the basis of these findings specific elimination strategies can be developed not only for the respective substances, but also for the corresponding site factors.

Through the application of functionalized hybrid silica gels, Wasser 3.0 can react flexibly to the specific needs of the wastewater in order to obtain clean water in the end.

Wasser 3.0 – what does it mean?

Wasser 3.0 is based on a material scientific approach to solve variable pollution problems. In this context, variable means that the composition of the pollution parameters and thus the concentration of trace substances in the water can change. It is the first procedure, which provides modular adaptable hybrid silica gels as fixation materials for stressors for wastewater remediation and drinking water purification. With Wasser 3.0 the functional groups of the stressors and their reactivity receive more focus vis-à-vis inorganic-organically structured materials. This principle is described with the functional design.

The modular hybrid materials consist of an inorganic and an organic part and can be used as a singular solution or as a combination of different hybrid components and e.g. activated charcoal.

Wasser 3.0 combines three solutions for 0 micropollutants in the water.
